Poems About Jack Mitchell - Song For Jack

by Emer Cloherty

In song our souls are woven
with threads of word and music
where joy and sorrow unite
and darkness blends into light
and so we gather tonight
as friends of Jack.

My poet and my mentor
my friend and chosen father.
So often when my heart broke
such words of wisdom he spoke
and wrapped them up in a joke
or sang me a song.

Jack Mitchell is gone from us
our friend, he has gone away.
And we will remember him.
His song is in our hearts to stay.

So clear and strong his singing
So great and brave his spirit
So clear the sight of his mind
So deep the love of his heart
So skilled his weaving of words
a master of his art.

To Jack, no cow was sacred
With humour, without hatred,
he tried to teach us to see,
with minds unfettered and free,
just how this world could be
a place of love.
